Who is responsible for the growing number of people with obesity? Is it the overweight people or is it the food companies after all? And what should we think about the role of the government and social organizations? Just as we did in the U.S., Edelman will keep a step ahead of the obesity issue in Europe. To do so, Edelman is organizing discussions on the subject of obesity with experts from the U.S. and other places. The conclusion is that no one is really able to side-step responsibility, but similarly, no one can assume total responsibility. Maybe a type of alliance will offer the solution. What form should this take? Perhaps it is best after all if each one starts with his/her own organization?
In one of these discussions Pam Talbot, president and COO of Edelman USA gave a presentation on the subject in the Netherlands. Similar meetings are also being organized in neighboring countries. Moreover, in the US, Edelman developed seven steps that we believe form the foundation for the responsibility that an organization must assume and for the best way to communicate this. Each organization can put this into practice in its own way.
